autumn

i often feel a little homesick at this time of year.

the leaves just aren’t as red....missing the sound of them dry underfoot...instead of soggy. the air's not as crisp.....the sun...well...you know....

saw some of the familiar signs today though. geese flying south, bulrush and an odd scent of clover in the air.

silly little things 111

i posted something like this before.....a few times....but i guess i feel like doing it again.

it’s the little things that are special to me. all kinds of little things....
things like going for an ice cream or making me a tea.
making something special that’s just for me....
holding the door open....a flower or writing a silly note.

these things that make me feel special and mean something to me.

i know it sounds silly....i know.

i use to call myself a closet romantic b/c people are often surprised when they find out i’m like that. i'm trying to change that these days. i'm a loud proud romantic and i don't care who knows!!

the story my faile....

it was last october...just after thanksgiving. garnet and i had just broken up and i’m not afraid to say i was pretty depressed about my whole situation. i had moved into this apartment in early summer...hadn’t been here much....hadn’t fixed it up. the walls were...are still are...yellow. a colour i’m just not big on. i decided i needed some art. i had a 4day weekend coming up and thought....hey, why don’t i go to portland and check out some art...do a little dancing..it will be fun! i knew ferris plock had collaborated with kelly tunsell and were having a show at the compound gallery and thought that might be a good place to start.... so off i went.

i went to the show at compound....bought a piece. not my first choice...it was sold but a nice one never the less. then i went across the street to upper playground. the gallery was closed. i poked my head in to try and get a look. the guy who was taking the show down saw me and asked if i wanted to take a look. i was wowed but the work. it love at first sight! almost every piece was sold except my canvas, an original framed piece on paper and one giant canvas...which was awesome as well. i was instantly drawn in. the guy said that the only reason the one i got was still there is b/c the person had changed their mind.....lucky for me! i told him i had to think sleep on it and i made an appointment to come by the next day. they would be closed but will be there taking the show down.

i called garnet for advice. he was on a road trip to arizona and had seen the show on his way out there. he gave me some positive reinforcement including what may have sealed the deal for me...he said “you can always sell it if you change your mind or need the money” and he was right.

thanks garn...i owe you one.

ok. i need to finish the story....

after i had some dances and slept on it....i made my way back to the gallery the next day. had another assurance phone call with garn...went in a bought the thing! then i realised i had to get it back to vancouver in my srx...hmmmm. ok... empty my trunk and put all my luggage in the front seat...that’ll work! it did...it just fit! hehe

oh boy...the border...crap. i should have gotten a dummy receipt ! shit. oh well...it too big to hide so i was honest at the boarder... paid a whack in gst and got back in my car. arrived home at about 4am and had to try and get it to my apartment. i really didn’t think of any of these things. you should have seen me. i only dropped it once.... luckily they packed it well at upper playground.

shadow of a man

i bumped into someone yesterday.... i don’t want to say who...just in case he reads my blog.

after i saw him the saying “he’s a shadow of a man” came to mind. shadow of the man he once was. you can see that man you knew and loved....yet he’s far far away. you can just make him out through the sadness of his face and it made me sad......

seattle portland getaway...

it's late. so for now surfice it to say i had an awesome weekend it seattle and portland with liz.

beer, margs, scooters, shoes and art are the themes for this trip...

beer tasting at georgetown...

liz, charlie and i forget that guys name at the 9lb

me and charlie at the 9lb...

more at the 9lb...we were there alot

there was alot of beer and beer related activities on this trip. here's a pic inside one if the brewery tours we went on

when we weren't drinking beer we were drinking margaritas and they make 'em potent south of the border...

there were also alot of scooters. there was a rally going on in seattle. it was mainly a pub crawl w/ a bit of scooting in between. liz and i didn't bring our scooters down but we joined in the festivities.

funky 80's mo-ped

we found greg at the side of the road so we kept him company while he fixed his scooter.

there was also alot of shoe shopping involved with this trip

and art. thought the one on the right looked alot like the faile piece i bought in portland last year.

here's a siori kawamoto limited edition print i bought in portland

and pie...

i don't know...thought this looked cool...

ok this is definitely a cool souped up bug...saw this in portland

this combines our themes nicely...beer and scooters...;)

a trickster in the market in portland

me, rich and liz with our growlers from the georgetown brewing co. liz's burst in the trunk on the way home all over almost everything. i was lucky though...and i have to thank garn for this one....my computer was right near the beer jug wrapped in this homemade sleeve he had made for me last year, anyway...not a drop got on the computer!! :) good job garn.

liz and me being tourists in front of a funky Mexican restaurant in portland. some lady kindly stopped and asked if we wanted our picture taken together. portlanders are super friendly.

many shoes size 5-5.5 in a vintage store in portland. in short a little shop called torso...right next to voodoo donuts is owned by the vintage clothing nazi of portland. she's almost never open and only lets in people she likes. she turned away the woman after us....pretty funny. i think it's a store full of her and her husband's old stuff b/c everything is pretty much the same size.

me on the pub crawl in seattle.

a cool pic liz took...of liz taking a cool pic....

thanks to liz and charlie...you're a great travel companions!

more later.....
